About the worst thing you can do is get angry with your child. Making a child guilty for existing will do nothing but make both your lives miserable.

We all know communication and understanding go miles further than anger but sometimes we just or "just can't deal with it anymore".

You know that you love your child, you also know when you are ranting and raving that you are not being rational. But what do you do? Scream at the cyclone that's tearing your house apart or tell them to go their room for some (imagined) crime?

Contemporary solutions from the pharmaceutical industry for parents are mind numbing drugs such as prozac. – "just something for you to help make the noise go away." Or for your child, – drugs such as Ritalin, an amphetamine, are the current choice for those wanting to make an otherwise active and creative child more malleable. Anxiety and stress are the watchwords of this cruel behavior.

These are not solutions that give any real, honest relief to a troubled child or family. One cannot beat or drug a child into submission then expect them to all of a sudden be happy and causative later in life. Statistics prove otherwise that the child that has been on Ritalin is more likely to progress onto other drugs later in life.

Your child's Reactive Mind causes him (or her) to behave irrationally. Your Reactive Mind can make you feel out of sorts, irritable or cross. Both Reactive Minds can "play off each other" making the situation worse and worse.

One does not have to accept the way things are or go the route of drugs or alcohol. By applying the procedures presented in Dianetics with some diligence, real happiness for you and your children can be achieved.
