Divorce and Dianetics
Aren't there more effective solutions to marriage than a divorce?
When does a divorce start? Is it when the papers are signed and the children divided? Is it the moment the words "I want a divorce" are uttered? Or is it that first moment one of you got angry or upset? Did the "reasons why" handle the situation? Split up and more often than not, one will go from one bad marriage to another.
How is it that you can be out with friends or at work and be enjoying yourself but the moment you step foot in the house you feel that extra weight on your shoulders?
How is it that you can be excited that your other half is coming home until the moment he or she walks in the door?
Are we all part Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde?
What is it that moves in on you at the most inopportune moments?
Well, it’s not a chemical imbalance! And it won’t be solved with drugs or alcohol.
Some think the mind can be a tricky place but it’s never as complicated as the psychiatrists and the pharmaceutical industry would have you believe.
The part of the mind that gives us trouble is called the Reactive Mind. This is described in the book "Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health" by L. Ron Hubbard.
"The reactive mind is the portion of a person’s mind which works on a totally stimulus-response basis, which is not under his volitional (willing) control, and which exerts force and the power of command over his awareness, purposes, thoughts, body and actions. The reactive mind is that portion of the mind which files and retains physical pain and painful emotion and seeks to direct the organism solely on a stimulus-response basis."
So, you can see from this alone that being unaware of the Reactive Mind can make one's various moods and their causes very confusing and mysterious.
The procedures laid out in Dianetics are not difficult to learn. Just studying the material in the book gives a person the tools needed to create a much calmer environment. Applying these principles to yourself can eradicate the negative effects of the Reactive Mind.
And that is generally a good thing!
